How do I find reserves & items placed on reserve by my instructor?
Answer
Reserves are library or instructor's materials set aside in the Thomas Jefferson Library to supplement student coursework and classroom research. Loan periods for these materials range from two hours to one week.
- Reserve materials are available only to UM-St. Louis faculty, staff, and students. You will need a valid University of Missouri - St. Louis ID card to check out reserve materials.
- Reserve items must be returned to the desk. Do not return reserve items in the book drops or to another library.
- Most items on reserve can leave the library except for materials listed as "Two hours-Library Use Only".
- Reserve items cannot be renewed. If multiple copies of the item are available, you may be able to check out a different copy.
- HOLDS cannot be placed on reserve materials.
How do I find reserve items?

- You can search by Course name (example: "English 1100") or Instructor's Name (last name only).
- If the item is available, it will say "NOT CHECKED OUT."
- Note the RESERVE CALL NUMBER and ask at the Public Service Desk. You will need your UMSL ID.
