Who can use the library's electronic resources?

Answer

Most library resources rely on the same MyGateway / SSO (single sign-on) used for your email and other university systems.

  • Only active students, faculty, and staff can use their SSO to access resources.
  • Emeritus professors are included as active faculty members for this purpose.  However, your department must formally notify the ITS department that you have Emeritus status before you can access library resources remotely.  Please contact the Help Desk for more information.
  • Students are considered active only if they are enrolled in a course or for research credit during the current semester.
  • Alumni and retirees cannot access library resources remotely, but can access most resources while on campus by using a public terminal in the library or by using their laptop/tablet/phone on the Guest wireless network.
  • Members of the general public cannot access resources remotely.  They can access most resources as a walk-in user using a public terminal or the campus guest wireless network.
  • The IT page linked below has more information if you are having trouble with your SSO, or contact the Help Desk.
  • For more information on connection alternatives, see the ITS Networking link below.

To access "My Library Account," request a MOBIUS book, or check out a book from another library, you may need your Student Number (or Employee ID). When using your number you may need to add a zero at the beginning of the number, e.g. 1234567 would become 01234567.

If you are trying one of the remote access options, please note that these do not work on all networks.  If you are at another library, your employer, or on some sort of restricted network, VPN and proxying may be denied.  Your antivirus/security software may also restrict the use of VPN and proxy services.
